t has come to my attention that a certain well-to-do family in our community has recently fallen into financial hardship to the degree that the electric company is threatening to shut off the electricity this week if the bill is not paid, the other utilities have sent shutoff notices as well and the auto-insurance is in cancellation status. This is significant in that the couple takes driving jobs to pay bills and that will be impossible without having proper insurance. Add to the list, is the fact that the חגים are here, which only puts more pressure on the family.
The family are “yesharim”, embarrassed to come on to others. In the past they have been from the supporters of our community, and B”H will certainly continue to be once again when this difficult time passes.
Due to the status of this individual and their unfortunate circumstances and the fact that we are less than 48 hours away from Yom Hadin, we have an opportunity to act in a merciful way thereby activating Hashem’s mercy onto us, besides the extra zechuyot so needed before Rosh Hashanah. As the Rambam writes – one of the highest levels of Sedaka is to put a person back on his feet.
May Hashem grant you the Zechut to always be on the giving end, never having to come on to others.
